Book a room category explicitly called “Pokémon Room,” then check where everyone will sleep. Booking a MIMARU hotel alone is not enough: a standard apartment at a participating property is a different room, and the themed categories have different bed layouts.
Start with four single beds if everyone wants an ordinary bed, compare the bunk layouts if they suit your group, and investigate Kyoto Shijo West's dedicated six-guest category if you need six sleeping places. Choose the city and room first; the theme should not hide an impractical sleeping arrangement.
Checked October 6, 2026. This is a researched booking comparison based on MIMARU's official Pokémon Room page, individual room specifications and FAQ. We have not stayed in these themed rooms and do not present this as a firsthand hotel review. Which Pokémon Room Should You Shortlist?
| What matters most | Start by checking | The important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Four individual beds in Tokyo | Kinshicho or Ueno East | Their listed Pokémon Rooms have four single beds |
| Two single beds plus a bunk in Tokyo | Ginza East or Hatchobori | Four sleeping places with different bed positions |
| A loft-and-futon layout | Ikebukuro | Two loft beds and two futons; not four conventional beds |
| Six separate sleeping places | Kyoto Shijo West | Choose the category explicitly named for six guests |
| Laundry inside the themed room | Kyoto Shinmachi Sanjo | Its Pokémon Room listing includes a washer-dryer |
| A themed stay in Osaka | Osaka Namba North | The Osaka property on the dedicated Pokémon Room page |
These are shortlists by room specification, not claims that a hotel is cheapest or available for your dates. Open the exact property's room list and compare the live result for your group.
If the theme is optional, compare these rooms with the alternatives in our Tokyo family hotel guide. A kitchen, bathroom arrangement or extra bed may be more valuable over a long stay than a themed interior.
What Makes It a Pokémon Room?
MIMARU's official Pokémon Room page describes themed interiors, a large Snorlax plush and Pokémon details around the room's kitchen and dining space. Room designs vary; the operator says guests cannot select a particular design.
The page also describes a four-item souvenir set, with one set per group per reservation. It should not be counted as one set per person. Check the current offer before your stay because gifts and designs can change.
The practical attraction is an apartment-style room where the family can spend time together. That is different from buying access to an attraction. A PokéPark KANTO ticket or Pokémon Café reservation should be arranged separately unless a specific package explicitly includes it.
When deciding whether the theme is worth paying for, compare the same dates and guest count with a standard room you would otherwise choose. Include the same cancellation flexibility. A cheaper non-refundable room and a flexible themed rate are not directly equivalent quotes.
Tokyo: Five Hotels, Three Different Bed Setups
The dedicated official page lists these five Tokyo properties. Each hotel name below links to its own room specifications. All five listed themed rooms have a base adult capacity of four; the separate young-child bed-sharing policy is explained later.
| Tokyo hotel | Pokémon Room size | Listed beds | Laundry for this room |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIMARU Tokyo Ikebukuro | 39 m² | 2 loft beds + 2 futons | Shared coin laundry |
| MIMARU Tokyo Kinshicho | 39 m² | 4 single beds | Shared coin laundry |
| MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East | 40 m² | 4 single beds | Shared coin laundry |
| MIMARU Tokyo Ginza East | 39 m² | 2 single beds + 1 bunk bed | Shared coin laundry |
| MIMARU Tokyo Hatchobori | 38 m² | 2 single beds + 1 bunk bed | Shared coin laundry |
One bunk bed here means a two-person bunk unit. Do not read “2 single beds + 1 bunk bed” as only three sleeping positions. Equally, do not read the Ikebukuro layout as four floor-level beds.
Kinshicho or Ueno East: When Four Beds Matter
These are the first two Tokyo options to examine if everyone wants a separate conventional bed. The room listings show four singles rather than requiring two guests to use a bunk or futon.
The useful difference is station access, rather than the one-square-meter gap. MIMARU's official access sections list:
| Four-single-bed option | Station, line and exit | Listed walk |
|---|---|---|
| Kinshicho | Kinshicho, Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line, Exit 2 | 3 minutes |
| Kinshicho | Kinshicho, JR Chuo-Sobu Line, South Exit | 5 minutes |
| Ueno East | Ueno, JR Yamanote Line, Iriya Exit | 3 minutes |
| Ueno East | Ueno, Tokyo Metro Ginza / Hibiya lines, Exit 1 | 5 minutes |
Our planning recommendation: put Kinshicho first if your planned journeys use the Hanzomon or Chuo-Sobu lines; put Ueno East first if they use the Yamanote, Ginza or Hibiya lines around Ueno. Compare your busiest sightseeing days and onward journey using those stations. These are route-based recommendations, not claims that either hotel is always quicker from the airport.
The walking times are the hotel's estimates from the named exits, not from your train platform. For a stroller or several suitcases, use the accessible-route map linked on each property page. The same pages show official room photographs so you can compare the actual themed layouts before booking.
For arrival with several bags, our Haneda airport transfers for families guide explains how to compare the journey to the actual hotel. Do not assume a transport service drops at every property in a district.
Ginza East or Hatchobori: Check the Bunk Layout
Both listed themed rooms combine two single beds with a bunk. That can give four travelers separate sleeping places, but the positions are not interchangeable. Decide who would use the upper bunk before paying, and ask the hotel about any suitability questions rather than guessing from a photograph.
MIMARU Tokyo Hatchobori and MIMARU Tokyo Station East are different hotels. The familiar Tokyo Station East listing in general family-hotel searches is not evidence of a Pokémon Room there. Follow the participating hotel's exact name all the way to the final reservation.
Ikebukuro: Lofts and Futons
The Ikebukuro Pokémon Room lists two loft beds and two futons. That is a distinct arrangement to consider deliberately, especially if anyone in the group would find climbing or getting up from floor-level bedding inconvenient.
The hotel is on the west side of Ikebukuro Station, while MEGA TOKYO is in Sunshine City on the eastern side. Do not treat “Ikebukuro” as a guarantee that the store is next door. Compare the actual walking route using our Tokyo Pokémon Center guide and the hotel's map.
Kyoto: Four Properties, Including a Six-Guest Room
Kyoto offers an important distinction: Shijo West has both a four-person Pokémon Room and a separately named six-guest version. Other room names at the hotel should not be assumed to carry the theme.
| Kyoto hotel and exact themed category | Size | Listed beds | Laundry for this room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kyoto Kawaramachi Gojo — Pokémon Room | 40 m² | 2 single beds + 1 bunk bed | Shared coin laundry |
| Kyoto Station — Pokémon Room | 40 m² | 2 single beds + 1 bunk bed | Shared coin laundry |
| Kyoto Shinmachi Sanjo — Pokémon Room | 40 m² | 2 single beds + 1 bunk bed | In-room washer-dryer |
| Kyoto Shijo West — Pokémon Room | 40 m² | 4 single beds | Shared coin laundry |
| Kyoto Shijo West — Pokémon Room for 6 guests | 60 m² | 4 single beds + 1 bunk bed | Shared coin laundry |
Shijo West was previously named Kyoto Nishinotoin Takatsuji, which explains why older articles may use a different hotel name. Use the current official property page when comparing a booking result.
Six Guests Means the Named Six-Guest Category
For six travelers who each need a sleeping position, start with the 60 m² Pokémon Room for 6 guests at Shijo West. The official listing gives it four singles and a two-person bunk. It also lists two toilets and two washbasins, with one bathroom.
That is materially different from a four-person room admitting two young children who share existing beds. The latter can be within the occupancy policy without providing six separate beds. Compare the room category, not just the largest number displayed in a booking result.
Laundry Can Decide a Longer Stay
The Shinmachi Sanjo Pokémon Room lists an in-room washer-dryer. This is a useful distinction for families trying to pack fewer clothes, but it is not a feature to assume at the other locations.
Shared coin laundry may still work well for your plans. Consider when you would use it and whether that fits your evenings. Do not choose a different suite's laundry description and apply it to the themed room simply because both are at the same property.
If you are undecided between an apartment hotel and a conventional hotel, our Japan accommodation types guide explains the broader trade-offs. Decide whether you need kitchen and living space before paying for extra room features.
Osaka: Check Namba North by Name
The Osaka Namba North property page lists a 41 m² Pokémon Room with two single beds and one bunk bed, with a base adult capacity of four. Its listed laundry arrangement is shared coin laundry.
This is the Osaka property on the dedicated Pokémon Room page checked for this guide. MIMARU operates other Osaka hotels, and a similar “Namba” name is not enough to identify a themed room. Use the hotel name and exact category together.
If Tokyo or Kyoto availability does not match your trip, an Osaka stay may be worth checking when Osaka is already on your route. Moving cities solely to find a room can add transport costs and consume a travel day, so compare the complete change before doing it.
Children and Bed-Sharing: Count People and Beds Separately
MIMARU's official FAQ permits up to two children aged six or under at check-in to share existing bedding without counting toward adult capacity. The booking interface treats older children as adult guests for the search. Enter every traveler with the correct age.
The policy does not add mattresses or enlarge the beds. A room that can legally accept your group may still be a poor sleeping arrangement for your family. Before selecting a rate, write down where each person would sleep.
| Example group | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Two adults and two children who each need a bed | Four actual sleeping positions, including who uses any upper bunk |
| Four adults and two children aged six or under | Whether bed-sharing is permitted for the exact booking and comfortable for the family |
| Six travelers who all need their own sleeping place | A room category designed for six, such as Shijo West's named option |
| A traveler who cannot use a ladder or floor bedding | A suitable bed layout; discuss any access requirements directly with the hotel |
If an occupancy result is unclear, ask the property before committing to a non-refundable rate. Explain the ages and sleeping arrangement you need, rather than asking only whether “a family of six” is allowed.
How to Book the Actual Pokémon Room
- Open the official Pokémon Room page. Use its participating-hotel links as the starting point.
- Choose the city and hotel. Keep the exact property name visible while comparing search results.
- Enter the complete group and dates. Use children's ages at check-in, not their ages when you begin researching.
- Find the named themed category. Look for “Pokémon Room” or the explicitly named six-guest version, not a generic family apartment.
- Recheck the beds and facilities. Match the final result to the layout you intended to book.
- Read the full price and terms. Confirm the total, any separately payable charges, payment timing and cancellation deadline.
- Save the confirmation. It should identify the property, room category, dates and guests you actually booked.
If using a third-party booking site, apply the same checks. A gallery containing a themed-room photograph does not prove that the selected rate buys that room. A message requesting the theme after booking a standard apartment is not the same as a confirmed themed category.
If the Room Does Not Appear
An absent search result is not a confirmed Pokémon Room reservation waiting to be assigned. Try another date or participating property if that fits your trip, or ask the hotel what options are available. Do not book an unsuitable non-refundable room in the hope of a free upgrade.
Decide whether the theme is essential before searching. If it is essential, keep checking only explicitly themed categories. If it is a bonus, compare a standard apartment and spend the difference on activities your group values. This makes an unavailable room easier to handle without rebuilding the entire trip.
Compare the Total Stay, Not an Advertised Starting Price
This guide does not quote a nightly “from” price because no single figure describes your dates, group and cancellation terms. Use live quotes for the same party and stay length.
Record five details for each option: room name, sleeping arrangement, full-stay total, cancellation deadline and payment timing. Add any separately payable charges shown during booking. Then compare the themed premium against a standard room that genuinely meets the same needs.
For example, if a themed room costs more but also provides an extra night or a different cancellation policy, first make the two quotes comparable. If you are comparing four ordinary beds with two beds plus a bunk, the difference is about sleep as well as price.
Hotel changes also have a cost in time. Before check-in or after checkout, ask the property about holding your bags. Our Japan luggage-storage guide can help when the hotel's location makes collecting them inconvenient. Storage availability and booking conditions should be checked separately from the room.
Fit the Stay into the Rest of Your Pokémon Trip
A themed hotel, a retail store and a park visit solve different parts of the trip. Choose a Tokyo Pokémon Center that works with your sightseeing route, and use the PokéPark KANTO booking guide for the separate admission process.
If the park is essential, confirm its ticket arrangements before tying the whole trip to a non-refundable room. If the hotel experience is the main treat, keep the rest of the itinerary flexible enough to spend time in the room you chose.
The final booking check is straightforward: everyone has a workable sleeping place, the confirmation names the themed room, and the location fits the holiday. Those details matter more than the first hotel photograph in a search result.

Start with MIMARU's official Pokémon Room page, choose a participating hotel and search your dates with every guest's correct age. Select a room category explicitly named Pokémon Room, then verify its beds, occupancy, total and cancellation terms. A standard apartment at the same hotel does not become a themed room through a special request.
The dedicated official Pokémon Room page lists Tokyo Ikebukuro, Tokyo Kinshicho, Tokyo Ueno East, Tokyo Ginza East and Tokyo Hatchobori. We checked their named room categories on October 6, 2026. Do not confuse Tokyo Hatchobori with MIMARU Tokyo Station East or assume every MIMARU hotel offers this room.
MIMARU Kyoto Shijo West lists a Pokémon Room for 6 guests with four single beds and one two-person bunk bed, covering 60 square meters. That is different from a four-person room allowing young children to share existing beds. Enter everyone's age and confirm the exact six-guest room category before paying.
MIMARU's official FAQ says up to two children aged six or under at check-in can share existing bedding without counting toward adult capacity. This does not add beds. Enter every guest and their correct age in the booking search, and confirm that the actual sleeping arrangement works for your family.
Laundry facilities vary by hotel and room. The Pokémon Room at MIMARU Kyoto Shinmachi Sanjo is listed with an in-room washer-dryer. Other properties compared here use shared coin laundry for the listed Pokémon Room. Check the amenities attached to the themed room itself, not those of a different suite at the same hotel.
Do not assume either is included. The room, park admission and café reservation are separate products unless your exact booked package explicitly says otherwise. Arrange park admission and café reservations through their own official booking channels.
